Job Description

Government Relations Associate

At Hidden Level, we're building the future of airspace awareness through cutting-edge RF sensing technology. Our mission is to make the world safer—whether it's protecting troops, securing infrastructure, or enabling smarter cities. We design, manufacture, and deploy advanced sensor systems that deliver real-time insights for defense and commercial applications.

We are seeking a highly motivated Government Relations Associate to join our Washington, D.C. team. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to build a career at the intersection of government, national security, emerging technology, and public policy.

Working closely with Government Relations leadership, the Associate will support Hidden Level's federal government relations strategy, with a focus on Congress, appropriations and authorization, national security policy, legislative research, and stakeholder engagement.

Location: Washington, D.C. This is a hybrid role with regular in-person collaboration expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor legislation, hearings, markups, committee activity, Member statements, and other congressional developments relevant to Hidden Level.
  • Track federal authorization, appropriations, and budget activity, including key deadlines and legislative milestones.
  • Research Members of Congress, committees, staff, caucuses, legislation, and policy issues to support the company's engagement strategy.
  • Identify policy and funding developments that may present opportunities or risks for the company.
  • Attend congressional hearings, policy briefings, industry events, and other Washington forums, providing clear summaries and analysis.
  • Track relevant legislation throughout the congressional process and help assess its potential impact on Hidden Level.

Appropriations and Federal Budget Support:

  • Support Hidden Level's annual federal appropriations and authorization efforts through research, tracking, material preparation, and coordination of congressional requests.
  • Research federal programs, appropriations accounts, budget requests, congressional priorities, and other funding opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of funding and policy requests, deadlines, submissions, status, and outcomes.
  • Help connect federal funding and policy developments to Hidden Level's business and strategic priorities.

Policy Research and Analysis:

  • Research policy issues affecting Hidden Level, including counter-UAS, airspace security, defense, homeland security, aviation, transportation, public safety, and critical infrastructure.
  • Prepare concise analyses, issue summaries, legislative updates, background materials, and other resources for internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor federal agencies, congressional committees, think tanks, trade associations, and industry organizations for emerging policy developments.
  • Translate complex legislative and policy information into clear, actionable insights for internal teams.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Hidden Level's technology and applications to help communicate its capabilities to policymakers and other nontechnical audiences.

Government and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Prepare for meetings with Members of Congress, congressional staff, committee staff, executive branch officials, and other government stakeholders.
  • Develop meeting briefs, biographies, background research, talking points, presentations, and other briefing materials.
  • Coordinate congressional meetings, policy briefings, facility visits, demonstrations, and other government engagements.
  • Participate in meetings as appropriate, document key takeaways and action items, and coordinate follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records of government engagements, stakeholder relationships, commitments, and follow-up activities.

Writing and Government Relations Operations:

  • Draft and edit policy briefs, congressional white papers, one-pagers, presentations, talking points, meeting materials, correspondence, and internal updates.
  • Assist with congressional appropriations and policy request submissions.
  • Maintain government relations calendars, stakeholder lists, legislative trackers, and engagement records.
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Legal, Communications, Product, and other internal teams.
  • Support engagement with outside consultants, trade associations, coalitions, and industry partners.
  • Help coordinate Washington-area events, congressional visits, and policy briefings.
  • Take increasing ownership of projects and direct stakeholder engagement as experience and expertise grow.

What We're Looking For:

  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, high-quality work.
  • Initiative, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to take ownership of assignments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, government, international relations, national security, communications, economics, business, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of relevant professional experience. Internships, fellowships, congressional or federal agency experience, political campaigns, government relations, public affairs, and policy research will be considered.
  • Demonstrated interest in Congress, national security, federal policy, government relations, or emerging technology.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Professional maturity and discretion when handling sensitive information and interacting with senior government and company officials.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Travel up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or professional experience on Capitol Hill, particularly with a congressional committee or office focused on defense, homeland security, transportation, aviation, appropriations, or national security.
  • Experience with a federal agency, government relations firm, trade association, think tank, political campaign, or national security organization.
  • Familiarity with federal legislative, authorization, appropriations, or budget processes.
  • Experience researching legislation, congressional hearings, federal budgets, or public policy.
  • Experience drafting briefing memoranda, policy papers, legislative summaries, or other professional materials.
  • Interest in defense technology, counter-UAS, aviation, airspace security, critical infrastructure, or national security innovation.
